In the 1930s, plastic was created by an employee at DuPont Chemicals, a gunpowder manufacturer. Polyester was later formed as a revolutionary textile due to its low cost. Fabrics like polyester, nylon, acrylic and elastane are all synthetic fabrics derived from petroleum. They quickly became the standard for fashion brands. Today, almost 60% of the materials used for clothing are made from plastic.

But what they didn’t mention is the cost it came with on humans, animals and our environment. Microplastics possessing hormone-mimicking properties. Forever chemicals that never break down. The implications don’t just effect us, but also wreak havoc on lakes, rivers, oceans and the entire planet.

While working with a variety of athletes, spanning diverse backgrounds and international locations, consistent patterns emerged.

From Earth, Back to Earth. Unlike synthetic materials derived from petroleum, merino wool exemplifies nature’s sustainable cycle. Each spring, Merino sheep naturally produce fresh fleece—a resource that has supported communities for thousands of years without exhausting available resources.

When merino wool garments reach their lifespan—generally lasting two to three times longer than cotton—they do not contribute to long-lasting waste. Instead, they decompose entirely in soil within six to twelve months, returning nitrogen and sulfur that nourish the earth. This process embodies a complete circular economy with zero waste.
