Orrange exists because somewhere along the way, we forgot what our clothes were supposed to do
For most of human history, we wore what the earth grew. Wool. Cotton. Linen. Hemp. Fabrics that breathed with us, broke down with us, and never asked our skin to fight a chemical war just to stay dry.
Then, in 1941, polyester was invented in a lab. It was cheap. It was strong. And by the 1970s the activewear industry had bet its entire future on it. Today, over 60% of the clothes on your body are plastic. Every wash sheds millions of microplastic fibers into our oceans, our soil, our drinking water — and into us.
Recent studies have found microplastics in human blood, lungs, placentas, and brains. We’ve turned ourselves into the experiment. Orrange is a small step in the other direction.
My Purpose. My Calling
I spent ten years coaching athletes across various countries — pros, weekend warriors, kids chasing scholarships, parents chasing their old selves. Different gyms, different sports, different cities. One thing was always the same: everyone was sweating in plastic.
I watched the chafing. The smell that no detergent could kill. The shirts that came out of the dryer warped after eight wears. We were charging people thousands for performance and dressing them in the same fabric as a 2-litre bottle of soda.
I knew there had to be something better. Merino sheep have been engineering the perfect performance fabric for 10,000 years. We just had to listen.
Why This Is Personal
The deepest reason I started this company isn’t on a spec sheet. It’s my mom.
She passed away from cancer. And in the years after, I went deep into the research on what we put in and on our bodies — the food, the water, the chemicals in the everyday things we never think twice about. The clothes we sweat into for hours every week.
I can’t change what happened. But I can build something that takes one source of synthetic exposure out of people’s lives. Every pair of Orrange shorts is for her, and for everyone who deserves to train hard and live long.
